Ska Turns Twenty-Eight
This past weekend, we made our yearly pilgrimage to Ska Brewing for their 28th Anniversary. It was a weekend full of old friends, new faces and great beer!
Twenty-Eight Years and Counting
Ever since 2007, we’ve been attending Ska Brewing’s anniversary party, and every year, we emerge from the festivities with a greater appreciation for Ska’s people and community they’ve cultivated. This year was no different, and we’re already looking forward to years 29 and 30.
This year, like last year, they hosted Nan Coffey for a pre-anniversary Art Show. Nan, if you’re not familiar, creates some of the most iconic ska-related art out there, so it’s a wonderful addition to an already awesome weekend.

Our only knock on the anniversary was the anniversary beer. In years past, Ska has rolled out a cellar-worthy bottle, but this year it was Double Modus, which shouldn’t make it more than a week or two in your fridge. It’s a sipper, for sure.
Double Modus is just as it sounds—extra hoppy, and extra alcohol-y…which made it less enjoyable for repeat sessions. Luckily, Ska makes a ton of other amazing beers, so we could bounce to Rue B Soho or Mexican Logger instead.
We’d love to see a return of Ska Face or some other heavy hitter from Ska’s past in a bottle worth holding on to for a few years…hint hint!
Music-wise, the bands really added that element to make the party more than just a beer festival in a parking lot. The Dendrites, Catbite and Fishbone really knocked it out of the park, and yet again, the beer took a backseat to the music. The intimate-nature of Ska’s anniversary party really allowed all who attended to get an up-and-close view of great music, whether you were in the front skanking along to the music, or in the back enjoying more beer.
